Also nick-named “Jesus Boat” because it is likely the type and style of boat used for fishing by Jesus’ 4 fisherman disciples, namely Peter, James, John, and Andrew.

In the Ginnosar Kibbutz’s Yigal Alon Museum, located on the banks of the Sea of Galilee not far from the city of Magdala ruins, is the excavated remains of an ancient boat. The boat was discovered in the Sea of Galilee in 1986 (the shoreline had receded due to severe drought). The dating of the excavated boat is between 50 BC and 50 AD. This type of boat was used by Galilean Jews for fishing and transportation. The boat measures 27 feet long, 7.5 feet wide and a preserved height of 4.3 feet.

Today approximate replicas of the boat have been produced and several companies offer short (about 1 hour) rides on the lake to tourists.

  1. We were planning on taking a “Jesus Boat” ride. Unfortunately, because of the war, we were not able to.
